So last night I hung our with one of my former mentees. She invited me to watch a movie with her because she recieved free tickets to see "Endless Love". I wasn't too excited about the movie choice though. It fell under Romance and Tragedy. A Ragedy. I generally like to laugh, not cry, or feel scared. So I watch only comedy at the movies.
Turns out my mentee felt the same way. So we ended up just taking a trip down to Mitsuwa in Costa Mesa. I introduced her to the iced sweetened green tea there. Its so delicious!
We ate at the udon place, Sanukiseimen Mugimaru. If you want to see reviews and more pictures of their food here is a link to yelp!

Heh heh. We bought one order of tonkatsu but piled on all the fried tempura side dishes. We had a small flaky golden mountain on our food tray. It was ridiculous, but oh so delicious.
If you love seafood and fried things. You would love eating there!
There was a man who was looking for something in the candy and cookie aisle. He came up to us asking us if we knew where mung bean pastries are at. He bought it a year ago for his girlfriend at Mitsuwa and doesn't remember where it is. I pointed towards the sweet cake-like items near the fridge section and the store bakery.
Before he left he said "arigato" and asked if we were Japanese. I said I was Vietnamese and he immediately said "Cam on." We had a little conversation in the middle of the aisle. He said that his girl friend is Vietnamese and he loves Vietnamese food like Pho, Banh mi, Bun bo hue.
Then he strolled down to the fridge section and shouted to us "THIS IS IT!" with a thumbs up. There wasn't any mung bean cake there though. So what he was looking for was the red bean mochi.
The encounter was interesting and mildly awkward. He was so excited to use the words he knew in Japanese and Vietnamese. What made it kind of awkward I guess was probably his initial assumption that I was Japanese.
Anyway... we wandered throughout the store looking at all the things. And noting how cutely packaged everything was. I bought a gundam model toy for my boyfriend and two Black Black caffeine mints. Those mints are super tiny, but don't be fooled! They slap your face with their iciness!
Then we went back to school and snuck into an open classroom and studied for our Vietnamese midterm together.
